Matthias Kohler is a renowned Swiss architect, Professor of Architecture and Digital Fabrication, and currently the Dean of the Department of Architecture at ETH Zurich. In 2000, he co-founded Gramazio Kohler Architects alongside Fabio Gramazio, an alliance that subsequently led the development of Gramazio Kohler Research—the world's first architectural robotic laboratory, founded in 2005. From 2014 to 2017, Kohler directed the NCCR Digital Fabrication as a principal investigator. His research explores human-machine collaboration in design, discovering new methods for digital craftsmanship and material innovation. Kohler is the co-author of foundational theoretical texts such as 'The Robotic Touch: How Robots Change Architecture,' exploring the profound integration of autonomous building methods and disruptive immersive technologies (VR/AR) within the AEC sector.
