Achim Menges
Achim Menges is a distinguished German architect and professor renowned for his pioneering work in computational design and construction. He studied at the Technical University of Darmstadt and graduated with honors from the Architectural Association in London in 2002. Since 2008, he has served as the founding director of the Institute for Computational Design and Construction (ICD) at the University of Stuttgart. Menges holds several key leadership roles, notably as the spokesperson and director of the IntCDC Cluster of Excellence, and as a Max Planck Fellow establishing a new research group focusing on Intelligent Construction and Building Systems. His interdisciplinary research emphasizes integrating biomimetic engineering, parametric design, evolutionary computation, and robotic manufacturing—particularly with carbon and glass fibers—to achieve highly articulated and performative built environments.
