Caitlin Mueller
Caitlin Mueller is an Associate Professor in the Building Technology Program at MIT (holding joint appointments in Architecture and Civil & Environmental Engineering) and the director of the Digital Structures research group. Working at the intersection of architecture and structural engineering, her research pioneers the integration of machine learning, data analytics, and computational mechanics to synthesize architectural intent with structural performance early in the design process. Her work strongly advocates for reducing embodied carbon in buildings through design optimization and structurally informed digital manufacturing. She holds degrees from MIT and Stanford and previously practiced as a structural designer at Simpson Gumpertz & Heger.
