Areti Markopoulou is a Greek architect, researcher, urban technologist, and the Academic Director at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona, where she leads the Advanced Architecture Group. She is the founder of Design Dynamics Studio and co-editor of Urban Next. Her research redefines urban architecture through an ecological and technological lens, merging design with biotechnologies, new smart materials, digital fabrication, and big data. She leads the Digital Matter-Intelligent Constructions (DMIC) Research focusing on responsive environments and adaptive construction systems.
